STORAGE AND USE
All Gas cylinders must be protected against undue absorption of heat.
Inside of buildings, cylinders should be stored in a well protected, well ventilated, dry location that is at least twenty (20) feet from any combustible materials.
Compressed gas cylinders must be stored or transported in a manner that prevents them from tripping, falling, or rolling.
Cylinders which accept valve protection devices must be equipped with these devices when not in use or connected for use. Never use these devices for lifting cylinders.
Small portable compressed gas cylinders must be conveyed by suitable trucks to which they are securely fastened.
All gas cylinders in service shall be securely secured to a rigid structure so that they will not fall or be knocked over in an earthquake. A double chain arraignement
should be used to prevent cylinders from tipping.
Cylinders must not be placed where they might form part of an electric circuit.
Do not transfer acetylene from one cylinder to another, or mix gases in a cylinder.
Oxygen cylinders must never be stored near highly combustible materials, especially oil and grease, or near reserve stocks of carbide and acetylene (including acetylene
generators), or other fuel gas cylinders; or near any other substance likely to cause or accelerate fire.
Cylinder valves must be closed before moving cylinders, when work is finished, and when cylinders are empty.
Leaking regulators, cylinder valves, hose, piping systems, apparatus, and fittings must not be used.
Cylinders, empty or full, must never be used as rollers or supports.
CYLINDER CERTIFICATION
No cylinders may be used unless they bear Interstate Commerce Commission markings showing that they have been tested as required by C.C.. Regulations.
TANK PICK-UP
Full Liquid Nitrogen tanks can not be left in the hallway due to fire regulations. We have someone who will pick up your empties and deliver your full ones between the hours of 3:00 and 4:30 PM M-F. Please put your empty tanks outside your lab prior to 3:00 PM and they will be picked up. We cannot leave the full tanks outside in the hall due to fire regulations, so someone must be in the lab to accept the full tanks and sign for them. If no one is in the lab, we will try and contact you by phone and leave a note on the door informing you of the attempted delivery.
DO NOT USE COMPRESSED OXYGEN:
To purge pipe lines, tanks, or any confined area.
To supply head pressure in a tank.
In pneumatic tools.
In oil preheating burners.
To start internal combustion engines.
For ventilation.
For "dusting" clothing.
In any other way as a substitute for compressed air.
