PREPARATION 1.
Laser beams are hazardous. Do not expose yourself to direct viewing of any laser beam. You must put on eye protectors (with proper wave length) before entering the room. If you are not sure of the proper eye protector, call EH&S. Lasers can cause permanent eye damage and blindness. Many lasers operate in an invisible spectrum.
2. Laser beams may strike jewelry, a watch, a pendant or other objects. Cover or remove them prior to working on a laser. The beam can be reflected about the room.
3. Turn on the warning light to signal that a laser is operating prior to use. DURING OPERATION 1. NEVER LOOK INTO A LASER 2.
During most of the laboratory periods the room will be partially darkened. This is necessary to perform many of the experiments. Use caution in moving about the room. Use an individual lamp or flashlight. If you need help, call "Lights" and don't move.
3. Keep the warning light on throughout the experiment. UCLA LASER SAFETY MANUAL
All users using class III or class IV lasers must have a copy of the 'UCLA Laser Safety Manual' from EH&S. The procedures and practices outlined in this manual must be followed.
