Key Order Procedure and Guideline
Logistics & Materiel Management office is responsible for keeping an up to date and accurate record
of all the keys (Individual keys, masters & sub masters) that open every office, lab, and conference
room within the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science. This office maintains all keys
for emergency access in a maximum secure place. However, this office does not have access to the regular
classrooms, Facilities Management's utility closets, SEASnet facilities and computer labs.
All key orders (i.e. new locks, changing keys, etc.) must be cleared through the office of
Logistics & Materiel Management prior to processing through the Facilities Management Key Shop. This
procedure has been communicated and will be followed by the Facilities Key Shop. Please copy all
FSR's for any key orders to shain@ea.ucla.edu
or they will not be processed by Facilities Key Shop.
When any new or updated door lock is installed and the key access is changed, this office should be given
at least one individual key to be kept at our key safe.
All key orders should include building master and any relevant sub masters. Requests that do not include
building master must have prior authorization by the office of Logistics & Materiel Management, Fire Marshal,
and Professor Jane P. Chang, Associate Dean for Research & Physical Resources.
Please note that custodian¡¦s master key is totally different than the building master we are speaking of here.
You can choose to be "off master" for the custodian¡¦s access while still "on master" for the building master.
Off master for Custodian's access only means that they will not be able to access your area to do the trash removal
and any necessary cleaning.
All proximity card readers and other electronic entry installments must have door knobs or door handles that
can accept Medeco cores. These new locks should allow for the building master access and any relevant sub master
as well.
All this is for your safety and security and as well as access by Fire Marshal, Police, emergency workers and
Facilities Management workers that may need enter your areas after hours or during holidays and weekends.
We appreciate your cooperation to maintain an accurate and up to date physical inventory of all necessary keys
for the HSSEAS buildings.
